Programmes Currently Offered in the Department
          The Department has the following undergraduate and post graduate programmes on ground as shown in Table 1.
Degree Programme offered by the Department

     Duration of Programmes
UME applications are offered a four-year programme (100 – 400 Levels). Direct Entry applicants are allowed a three-year programme (200L – 400L). M.Ed applicants are offered a two-year programme, while Ph.D. applicants are offered a three-year programme.

The maximum period a student is allowed to remain on a programme under the four-year system is six years. The Direct entry programme is four years, while the maximum period a student is allowed to remain in an M.Ed and Ph.D. programmes are three and four years respectively.

Admission Requirements
The candidates for admission into the under graduate programmes needs the following requirements.

UME Requirements

B.Sc. (Ed) Biology

In addition to the general UME admission requirements of 5 SSCE/WASSCE/GCE O’Level/NECO or equivalent credit passes (at not more than 2 sittings), which must include English Language, Mathematics and Chemistry, Candidates for B.Sc. (Ed) Biology must obtain a credit pass in Biology and Physical/Further mathematics/Technical Drawing/Integrated Science/Geography or Geology/Economics
(ii)     B.Sc. (Ed) Chemistry
In addition to the general UMe admission requirements of 5 SSCE/WASSCE/GCE/O’Level/NECO or equivalent credit passes (at not more than 2 sittings), which must include English Language Mathematics and Chemistry, Candidates for B.Sc. (Ed) Biology must obtain 2 credit passes in either of the following Physical Biology or Agricultural Science, Further mathematics/Technical Drawing/Integrated Science/Geography or Geology/Economics

B.Sc. (Ed) Integrated Science

In addition to the general UME admission requirements of 5 SSCE/WASSCE/GCE/O’Level/NECO or equivalent credit passes (at not more than 2 sittings), which must include English Language Mathematics and Chemistry, Candidates for B.Sc. (Ed) Biology must obtain 2 credit passes in Biology or Agricultural Science and Further mathematics/Technical Drawing/Integrated Science/Geography or Geology/Economics
Note: at least a pass in Physics is required for B.Sc. (Ed) Integrated Science.
(iv)    (Ed) Physics
In addition to the general UME admission requirements of 5 SSCE/WASSCE/GCE/O’Level/NECO or equivalent credit passes (at not more than 2 sittings), which must include English Language Mathematics and Chemistry, Candidates for B.Sc. (Ed) Physics must obtain 2 credit passes in Physics and Biology or Agricultural Science/Further mathematics/Technical Drawing/Integrated Science/Geography or Geology/Economics.

B.Sc. (Ed) Mathematics/Computer Science

As recommended for B.Sc. (Ed) Physics
(iv)     B.Sc. (Ed) Mathematics/Statistics

(vii)        B.Sc. (Ed) Mathematics/ Computer Science

1. Direct Entry Requirements
1. Holders of UME requirements plus HSC/GCE A’Level possess in the relevant Science subjects may be admitted into year III (300Level)
2. HND holders with at least Upper Credit in relevant disciplines who posses the UME requirements may be admitted into year II (300 Level).
3. OND  holder with at least Upper Credit in relevant disciplines who posses the UME requirements may be admitted into year II (200 Level).
4. NCE holders with at least 2 Credit pass in relevant disciplines who posses the UME requirements may be admitted into year II (200 Level).
5. NCE holders with at least one Credit pass in relevant disciplines who posses the UME requirements may be admitted into year I (100 Level).
   Post Graduate Admission Requirements

The following are the requirements for Postgraduate studies leading to award of diploma and degrees of the University of Agriculture, Makurdi.

1. Post Graduate Diploma Requirements
1. Graduate of the Universtiy of Agriculture Makudi or any other recognized University with Bachelor’s Degree in relevant areas.
2. Holders of Higher National Diploma (HND) or equivalent with minimum of Credit Pass or Equivalent in relevant areas from recognized institutions.
3. Plus five (5) SSCE/WASC/GCE/NECO O’Level or equivalent credit passes at not more than two sittings.
1. Masters Degree (M.Ed) Requiremens
4. Candidates for admission into masters programme should posses Bachelors Degrees in relevant areas from the University of Agriculture, Makurdi or other recognized Universities with a minimum of Second Class Honours.
5. Candidates with Third Class Honours or pass Degree or HND in relevant areas with appropriate Post graduate Diplomas of the University of Agriculture, Makurdi or other recognized Universities with a minimum CGPA of 3.50 (or at least Upper Credit in the Postgraduate Diploma) may be admitted. In addition, holders of HND are required to satisfy the basic school certificates or GCE Ordinary level entry requirements for Admission into Bachelor’s Degree as required by the respective Department.

  Doctor of Philology Degree (Ph.D.) Admission Requirements.
Graduates of University of Agriculture, Makurdi or other recognized Universities who have obtained Masters Degrees in relevant disciplines with  CGPA of 3.50 in a 5 point (or at least Upper Credit in the Postgraduate Diploma) may be admitted.

Dressing Code
The university frowns at immoral dressing by students, especially by the female gender. Students are therefore, advised to dress properly to class, lectures, practicals and also at their leisure time on campus. This is likely to curtail immoral acts and enhance ethical values in our university life. As enlightened adults your conscience should inform you to always dress MODERATELY.
13.1   Time Budgeting
In your day to day academic activities, see that you properly budget your time for effective learning.

• Programme your activities, for each day to enhance, maximum utilization.
• Do not idle around for too long.
• If you have to relax, budget your relaxation time.
• Plan your time for enough rest/sleep.
• Plan your time to do your assignment as at when due and submit on time.
• Plan your time to watch TV/Video but not always and not indefinitely.
• Plan your time to attend all lectures and on time.
• Plan to cook or purchase your meals and eat same within scheduled time etc.

NOTE that time budgeting helps to effectively regulate your overall pattern of life for progress and success.

  Consultation
There is reasonable academic freedom practiced by students in Nigeria universities. The best way to learn is to Ask whenever you are in doubt. The consultation process can be at the level of:

• Student – Student
• Student – Staff
• Student – Examination Officer/College Exam. Officer
• Student – Departmental Secretary/College Officer
• Student – Head of Department
• Student – Dean of College etc.

By the time the above levels of consultations are made, the student’s ignorance/problem shall be solved in both official and unofficial capacities. Do not live with ignorance, as it is often said that “information is power”. Try to be always properly informed through dialogue and consultation.
