Duration of Programmes
UME applications are offered a four-year programme (100 – 400 Levels). Direct Entry applicants are allowed a three-year programme (200L – 400L). M.Ed applicants are offered a two-year programme, while Ph.D. applicants are offered a three-year programme.
The maximum period a student is allowed to remain on a programme under the four-year system is six years. The Direct entry programme is four years, while the maximum period a student is allowed to remain in an M.Ed and Ph.D. programmes are three and four years respectively.
Admission Requirements
The candidates for admission into the under graduate programmes needs the following requirements.
UME Requirements
B.Sc. (Ed) Biology
In addition to the general UME admission requirements of 5 SSCE/WASSCE/GCE O’Level/NECO or equivalent credit passes (at not more than 2 sittings), which must include English Language, Mathematics and Chemistry, Candidates for B.Sc. (Ed) Biology must obtain a credit pass in Biology and Physical/Further mathematics/Technical Drawing/Integrated Science/Geography or Geology/Economics
(ii) B.Sc. (Ed) Chemistry
In addition to the general UMe admission requirements of 5 SSCE/WASSCE/GCE/O’Level/NECO or equivalent credit passes (at not more than 2 sittings), which must include English Language Mathematics and Chemistry, Candidates for B.Sc. (Ed) Biology must obtain 2 credit passes in either of the following Physical Biology or Agricultural Science, Further mathematics/Technical Drawing/Integrated Science/Geography or Geology/Economics
B.Sc. (Ed) Integrated Science
In addition to the general UME admission requirements of 5 SSCE/WASSCE/GCE/O’Level/NECO or equivalent credit passes (at not more than 2 sittings), which must include English Language Mathematics and Chemistry, Candidates for B.Sc. (Ed) Biology must obtain 2 credit passes in Biology or Agricultural Science and Further mathematics/Technical Drawing/Integrated Science/Geography or Geology/Economics
Note: at least a pass in Physics is required for B.Sc. (Ed) Integrated Science.
(iv) (Ed) Physics
In addition to the general UME admission requirements of 5 SSCE/WASSCE/GCE/O’Level/NECO or equivalent credit passes (at not more than 2 sittings), which must include English Language Mathematics and Chemistry, Candidates for B.Sc. (Ed) Physics must obtain 2 credit passes in Physics and Biology or Agricultural Science/Further mathematics/Technical Drawing/Integrated Science/Geography or Geology/Economics.

The following are the requirements for Postgraduate studies leading to award of diploma and degrees of the University of Agriculture, Makurdi.
Doctor of Philology Degree (Ph.D.) Admission Requirements.
Graduates of University of Agriculture, Makurdi or other recognized Universities who have obtained Masters Degrees in relevant disciplines with CGPA of 3.50 in a 5 point (or at least Upper Credit in the Postgraduate Diploma) may be admitted.
Dressing Code
The university frowns at immoral dressing by students, especially by the female gender. Students are therefore, advised to dress properly to class, lectures, practicals and also at their leisure time on campus. This is likely to curtail immoral acts and enhance ethical values in our university life. As enlightened adults your conscience should inform you to always dress MODERATELY.

HISTORY OF THE DEPARTMENT
The University of Agriculture, Makurdi was established in 1988 with its pioneer Vice Chancellor as Professor F.S. Idachaba.
In 1989, the Idachaba – led Administration saw the need to establish the Department of Agricultural and Science Education in the College of Science, Agricultural and Science Education.
